F2 returns to Monza

Formula 2 returns from its summer break, and action is back on track as the 22 drivers are ready to continue the fight at the iconic Temple of Speed, Monza.

Only 22 points separate the top three drivers as they head into the Monza weekend, leaving Nikola Tsolov, Gabriele Mini, and Rafa Camara eager for the championship battle to continue. Tsolov goes into the weekend as the championship leader with 167 points. Mini sits 20 points behind the Bulgarian, while only 2 points separate Camara from Mini.

Tsolov has had an astonishing season thus far. Although Budapest left him disappointed after he only secured 6 points, his season as a whole has been marked by impressive performances. The F2 rookie is closely followed by Mini. The Alpine Junior has flown under the radar but has managed to sneak in with consistent performances, sitting second in the fight. Similarly, Camara impressed from early on, and his stellar drives, combined with solid qualifying performances, have put him in the fight.

However, with both Mini and Camara lurking close behind, grabbing as many points as possible will be vital for all. Similarly, although the gap to the drivers behind is larger, other drivers still have the opportunity to swipe in and close the gap, putting themselves in a position to fight for the title.

The Temple of Speed comes with an opportunity for the underdogs. The Italian weekend can be largely unpredictable, considering only 2 out of the last 9 pole sitters have converted pole to a Feature Race win. Alex Dunne has the chance to jump in and get closer to the fight at the front. With Dunne 59 points behind the championship leader, the gap is significant but not impossible if the next few weekends go well for him.

Track conditions

Monza comes at a crucial time, with only four rounds remaining after the weekend concludes. The track remains a favourite among drivers and fans. With speed, tight chicanes, and a usually chaotic start and finish, the weekend brings plenty of excitement.

Monza is known as the Temple of Speed because cars reach full throttle for 80% of the lap around the iconic circuit. The 5.793km track also brings another challenge with its tight chicanes.

Tyre management becomes crucial at Monza as keeping the tyres cool can be difficult in the high temperatures. It is expected to be dry and sunny this weekend, but increased wind will hit from Saturday until Sunday.
