Lando Norris will find out within weeks whether his new LN4 Fusion team has secured a place on the 2027 Formula 2 grid.
F2 chief executive Bruno Michel said the series is in the final stages of choosing its teams for the next three-year cycle.
Entries to F2 and F3 are awarded on rolling three-year cycles. Norris joined the F3 grid mid-cycle by buying the assets of the existing AIX team. He’s already confirmed his line-up for the 2027 season.
For F2, he set the team up in time to apply for a slot in the new cycle. A decision is expected in around a month, before the F1 season closes in Qatar and Abu Dhabi in early December.
“We are finalising the process of the selection for the teams, for the F2 teams, for the next three years, and we’ll be announcing the teams very soon,” Michel told the media.
The reigning world champion launched LN4 Fusion in early September, alongside the LN4 Legacy Programme. The programme aims to find promising young drivers and give them the kind of backing Norris had on his own way up.
The team has already confirmed entries in Italian F4, the Formula Regional European Championship and F3, and is also pursuing a place in British F4.
Norris giving back
Michel praised Norris for putting something back into the ladder that made him.
“Lando has already entered into Formula 3 by buying the assets of AIX, and for us it’s very positive to have someone like Lando coming back into the system.”
“I’m always very grateful to the drivers who are always trying to give back a bit of what they’ve been earning because of what happened to their career, and it’s a very strong thing for Lando, and I think he’s also enjoying it very much.
“He wants to work with young drivers as well. He wants to help them as he’s been helped in the past, and that’s fantastic for us.
“On top of that, I’m sure he’ll have a good approach to how to run the team, even if he’s not going to be there on a day-to-day basis because he has another job, but for sure, it’s very positive.”
