Formula 2 continues its campaign at the infamous Silverstone Circuit as the series accompanies Formula 1 at the iconic British Grand Prix.
Drivers are preparing to continue the European leg of the championship at one of the most well-known circuits on the calendar. Loved by many, Silverstone promises an exciting yet unpredictable weekend for the drivers. Perfect for those who have had a difficult opening stint of the season.
Silverstone boasts a 5.891km track length, with 18 turns and two DRS zones. As usual, teams and drivers will have a sole 45-minute practice session to understand the circuit before qualifying and the races. Whilst the circuit may be extremely well-known throughout the paddock, the conditions could be unlike typical British weather.
As the European heatwave continues, drivers will have to endure similar conditions to those in Austria. Ultimately, tyre management and strategy will be critical in leaving Silverstone with a substantial points haul.
At the mid-point of 2026, this round could serve as a critical turning point for drivers. Particularly those who struggled in the Australian and North American leg.
Formula 2 Championship standings
Following last weekend’s Austrian GP, Gabriele Mini continues to lead the fight. However, the Italian is under immense pressure from his rookie rival, Nikola Tsolov, who closed the 6-point gap to 2 points. Both Mini and Tsolov have shown incredible consistency and pace throughout the season. Continually challenging one another at the front of the field.
The pair have gone tit for tat this season, pointing toward Silverstone being a pivotal championship round. In a weekend where unpredictability is common, a mistake from either driver could see a significant surrender of Championship points. In turn, allowing their rival to secure a much-needed advantage heading into the second half of the season.
24 points adrift of the championship battle sits reigning F3 champion Rafael Camara. The Brazilian has also shown great pace and race craft this season; however, he is evidently still working out the problems that come in one’s rookie season. Importantly, Camara is no stranger to a title battle. Let alone a title battle against Bulgaria’s Tsolov. If the Ferrari-backed driver can emulate his performances from the early-season rounds, he could see a significant jump into this title battle.
Another name that everyone has heard this season is Alex Dunne. The Irishman struggled this time last season, as he went from leading the championship in Barcelona to third at the end of Silverstone. Learning from his mistakes last year, Dunne can capitalise off the inexperience of Tsolov and Camara ahead. Placing himself firmly in contention for a championship battle in the second half of the season.
Despite the intense title fight that will inevitably be a talking point this weekend, many fans will have their eyes on the hometown heroes. TRIDENT’s John Bennett became the team’s first winner since 2024, last time out in Austria. The Briton showed his talent throughout the race, saving a brilliant overtake for the lead on the final lap of the race. No doubt with his home fans supporting him, bennett will be eager to continue this form into Silverstone.
