Jorge Martin rounded off a dominant day at Silverstone by taking a lights-to-flag victory in the British MotoGP Sprint.
Martin was by far and away the best rider of the day, snatching pole position on his final lap in qualifying before putting on a commanding performance in the Sprint race.
Martin led every single one of 10 laps after getting the holeshot and seemed in cruise control as he took his third Sprint victory of the season and extended his advantage in the championship.
The Spanish rider was closely followed by Ai Ogura throughout the race, however the satellite rider never quite had enough to challenge for the lead of the race.
Although the top two remained fixed throughout the race, it was a frenetic start further down the order as Marc Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio made fast starts and immediately overtook Raul Fernandez on the Trackhouse Aprilia to get into third and fourth.
However, the race pace of the Ducati riders plateaued, likely due to their selection of the soft rear tyre that saw the factory machines of Marquez and the lowly Francesco Bagnaia fall back into the pack as the race progressed.
Di Giannantonio was unable to stick with the contenders too after being overtaken by Marco Bezzecchi and Alex Marquez.
Bezzecchi used the pace of his Aprilia as he carved his way through the field to move from sixth to the podium in the final few laps, but never quite had enough to close on the leading duo.
In the end, Martin sealed a historic 1-2-3, the first for Aprilia in the Sprint format, by taking the chequered flag in first place.
Ogura admitted he was bewildered by the tyre degradation, but was ultimately happy with a second place finish.
Bezzecchi fought both with his rivals and the lingering pain from his existing collarbone injury to complete the podium in third.
Alex Marquez was the best of the rest, finishing a distant fourth from the podium contenders, while Di Giannantonio was fifth.
Pedro Acosta pulled a fantastic overtake on Marc Marquez on the run down to Copse to take sixth place, with Joan Mir taking an equally opportunistic move for seventh.
Franco Morbidelli also overtook Marquez on the final lap in the battle for eighth, but the factory Ducati rider held onto the final point in ninth.
Diogo Moreira missed out on the points by 0.027s as he completed the top 10, with Brad Binder leading Luca Marini and Jack Miller over the line in the battle for 11th.
Fabio Quartararo took the chequered flag in 14th, while Enea Bastianini was 15th.
Alex Rins crossed the line in 16th to finish ahead of the ailing Bagnaia – whose tyre troubles saw him down in 17th.
Pol Espargaro took 18th ahead of Yamaha wildcard Augusto Fernandez, while Toprak Razgatlioglu’s struggles on his first MotoGP visit to Silverstone continued as he completed the standings in 20th.
Iker Lecuona crashed out of the race after a Lap 2 incident with Morbidelli, in which the Italian was cleared of any wrongdoing by the stewards, joining Raul Fernandez and Cal Crutchlow as the non-finishers of the Sprint after both crashed in their own individual incidents.
