The second 2026 meeting took place between the Formula 1 Commission, with the FOM president and CEO Stefano Domenicali present.
Under the overhaul of the 2026 F1 regulations, the commission meetings are designed to improve the safety and quality of racing. While the specific details of the discussions aren’t released, the FIA release a media overview of the key points.
It brings with it the confirmation of a slew of changes for the 2027 season. The changes ranged from major points, such as extending the test days for 2027 from three to four days, to minor points, such as minor changes to components.
Changing from three days of testing to four is a significant move for the F1 teams. It will likely take place in Bahrain, ahead of the opening race, which is moving back to the Middle East for March.
Especially as there are ongoing discussions aiming to change the internal combustion-to-electric ratio from 50-50 to 60-40. If this is put through, the extra day of testing will be vital for the grid.
Changes to the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) rules have been agreed. With limitations being imposed on testing on circuits where races will be held in the subsequent year’s championship.
Minor changes were agreed upon for the aerodynamic and bodywork components. However, they didn’t release the details of these changes.
All regulatory changes are subject to approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC).
