The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council has approved changes to the Technical Regulations for the rest of 2022, and for 2023, in a bid to alleviate porpoising.

The phenomenon returned to Formula 1 this year amid the new regulations and the FIA has sought to address the matter amid increasing safety concerns raised by some teams and drivers.

Certain teams have been worse affected than others, with the situation most pronounced on bumpy circuits, such as Baku and Montreal.

Discussions have been ongoing for several months and on Tuesday the FIA’s WMSC approved changes.

From the Belgian Grand Prix onwards the FIA will measure porpoising and will expect teams to operate below a certain threshold in order for a car to be considered safe.

In addition the stiffness requirements of plank and skids around the thickness measurement holes on the central floor will be redefined.

From 2023 the floor edges will be raised by 15mm while the diffuser throat height will be raised.

The diffuser edge stiffness will be increased while the FIA will mandate an additional sensor in order to monitor porpoising more effectively.

“Safety is absolutely the highest priority for the FIA, and we have devoted significant time and resources to the analysis and resolution of the issue of porpoising,” said FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

“I have personally discussed this matter with all of the teams and drivers, and while of course there are some differences in opinion owing to varying competitive positions, it is very clear that the FIA has a duty to act and ensure that the drivers are not put at undue risk of injury as a result of this phenomenon.”

    Common sense prevails .
No more headaches or post career cerebral shock illnesses or synaptic damage caused by
chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). CTE is caused by repetitive head injuries leading to a progressive loss in memory and other brain skills. The lack of proper skull protection from violent vibrations can cause neurological degeneration similar to those seen in athletes competing regularly in high contact sports such as Rugby and Boxing.
As for Little Horner the effervescent drama queen…he’ll doing his very best Napoleonic moaning…
“till the cows come home”. Most likely standing on his upturned crate of Red Bull.
Extra thrashing and flailing…Now that his flexing tea tray (board) will be scrutinised for it’s irregular flexibility with the aid of additional sensors. Happy Days .

Common sense was for Mercedes to raise their car’s ride height to fix their problem, but they didn’t want to lose performance.

Instead, FIA is now forcing other teams, namely Red Bull and Ferrari who don’t have the same issue to be disadvantage, all to pull back their performance and give Mercedes a chance to catch up.

Mercedes is the one who was risking their drivers. Now teams who actually did their designs correctly and fixed their porpoising issues are going to be cheated by this ruling.

As always, Ffib talks bollocks. Just like Gerry says, the only team with a serious problem is Mercedes, so the obvious measure was to suspend Mercedes from the championship, unless and until they raised the height of their car to compensate and eliminate the issue. I suppose that progressive memory loss would explain why Wolff and Hamilton never seem able to recall all of the occasions where the short-arsed jewellery display has deliberately crashed into opponents, causing them to be placed in significantly increased danger over the levels already inherent in the sport, but it was going on long before the ground effect cars were introduced this year, and Wolff doesn’t drive them anyhow, so it’s an inaccurate connection.

I believe very strongly, that Mercedes manipulated the decision.
I believe, Mercedes for once did not do their job right
I believe, that Mercedes would not have anyway won the 2021 drivers Champion Ship, if Red Bull would have not been pushed of the track in Silverstone.
I do not believe, that Mercedes was and are Angels, as the make out to be.
I believe, Hamilton would just has been an ordenary Driver as anyone else if he had a different car
It was the Mercedes car that made him, not his skills as a driver. As seen, with Russel taking one race over from him due to COVID in 2021 for one Race.
I believe, Toto Wolff is a vindictive person, and a bad loser, and he will try his best for Russel to come behind Hamilton, even Russel is in better shape.
I believe Bottas did not have the Bottle to challenge Lewis, because Toto Wolff and his secret team orders.
I believe, Hamilton is no where near Senna, and Schumacher, because he only drove the best and fastes car for 7 or eight seasons
I believe, the younger drivers and Max showed, they are a force to be reckoned with, even if they have none supirior cars.
One could see Hamilton as an ordenary Driver, not coping with a car, what every one had during the last seven seasons.
I have seen Max Verstappen putting everything into it even he had problems with the car, and penalties, and mechanical problems.
I believe, very strongly that he deserved the 2021 champion chip, because Mercedes and Lewis tried everything, ( taking him out, and making sure Bottas did do some damage to Red Bull..
I believe, if all these things did not happen, and Lewis would have one every Race after Silverstone, and Max would have come second,. Max still would have won 2021 by 1 or 2 points .
So, why carrying on with the old what was fair and what was not fair.
It was not mercedes year in 2021.
And it seems up to spa, 2022.
But now, mercedes makes everyone suffer for their wrong designs.
If it bounces, make it higher and loose performance,. After all, it is your design fault, not the majority of the other teams.
And, Lewis,. you never be as good as Senner, or Michael, even if you win in it 11 times.
Because you only had your victories in the fastes, and best designed car for the seven years.
Try another car, and you will be useless, as confirmed in the few first Races in 2022.
And accept it’s not you,. It was the car
And as for Mercedes, you are a whinging bunch of Firm, who cannot accept, after years of success, to come down to the level of other cars.
And now, you made a mess, for 2022 you want to force all your rivals, who are better then you, have to come down to your pathetic constructional level, so they will be at a disadvantage , do you can catch up.
I am German, and I am ashamed of you Mercedes. Your main Driver will not get Brain damage.
He has got that already, according to his clothes he designs, and wears.
