Ricky Taylor has taken pole position for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, leading Dane Cameron in an Acura front-row lockout.
Taylor posted a time of 01:30:022 in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05, just 0.119s quicker than former team-mate Dane Cameron driving the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05.
Cameron was half a second clear of third-placed Renger van der Zande in the #01 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DPi-VR, with Kamui Kobayashi fourth for Ally Cadillac Racing.
Pipo Derani was fifth in the #31 Whelen Enegineering Cadillac DPi-VR, with Oliver Jarvis sixth in the #55 Mazda RT24-P and the class rounded out by Tristan Vautier’s #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac.
Thomas snatches late pole in LMP2
Steven Thomas completed a remarkable comeback for WIN Autosport to take pole position in LMP2.
The team’s #11 ORECA 07-Gibson had been damaged in a practice crash earlier in the day, but rebuilt in time for Thomas to charge to pole in the dying seconds of the session.
Ben Keating appeared to have the session under lock and key in the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA, but Thomas gradually closed in as the session went on.
When the Texan then spun on his penultimate final lap, it left the way clear for Thomas to squeeze onto pole position with a time of 01:35:304, just 0.018s quicker than Keating.
Dwight Merriman was third for Era Motorsport, with John Farano fourth in the #8 Tower Motorsports ORECA.
United Autosports could muster no better than fifth, with Jim McGuire four seconds off pole in the #22 ORECA 07-Gibson.
McCusker dominates LMP3
Austin McCusker took LMP3 pole position for United Autosports in dominant fashion.
The New York native was barely threatened in his run to pole in the #2 Ligier JS P320, eventually topping the charts with 01:40:404.
The closest driver to McCusker was Jarett Andretti, who was 0.570s slower in the #36 Andretti Autosport Ligier JS P320.
George Kurtz was third for CORE Autosport, with Performance Tech Motorsports’ Dan Goldburg fourth.
Dawson Racing lines up fifth on its championship debut, while the two Riley Motorsports’ cars rounding out the class.
Gar Robinson, previously on pole at Mid-Ohio, was over 2,5 seconds off pole and seventh in the #74 Ligier, while Jim Cox qualified seventh and a further two-tenths behind his team-mate.
Corvette goes one-two in GTLM
Corvette Racing sweeped the front row in GTLM for the C8.R’s first visit to Watkins Glen International.
Veteran Corvette ace Antonio Garcia was in a league of his own around the New York circuit, peaking with a 01:40:944 aboard the #3 Corvette C8.R.
Garcia outpaced team-mate Tommy Milner by 0.374s to take his second pole of the season, with the two BMWs third and fourth.
Connor de Phillippi took third in the #25 BMW M8 GTE, with John Edwards fourth in the #24 sister car.
The class was completed by the #79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19, driven by Cooper Macneil.
Vasser Sullivan sweeps GTD
Pole position in GTD was captured by Kyle Kirkwood in the #14 Lexus RC F GT3.
The Vasser Sullivan Racing driver took his maiden pole in the series by posting a 01:41:539, which was enough to take pole.
Kirkwood surpassed the #42 NTE Sport Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo of Jaden Conwright, who topped the timesheets for some time before Kirkwood took the top spot away.
Conwright was eventually bumped down to third place, as Trent Hindman took second in the #16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, 0.310s behind Kirkwood.
Daniel Morad took fourth in the #28 Alegra Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3, with the top five completed by Robby Foley in the #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M6 GT3.
After the bronze- and silver-rated driver had set their times to form the grid, the pro drivers took over for the qualifying points session.
In that session, it was once again the #14 Lexus on top, as Jack Hawksworth posted a 01:45:081 to sweep both sessions for the brightly coloured RC F GT3.
Hawksworth led team-mate Zach Veach in the #12 Lexus RC F GT3, with Veach 0.282s behind. Patrick Long was third in the #16 Wright Motorsports Porsche.
