Martin Brundle has revealed he rang Christian Horner up to clarify all the speculations connecting him to a potential Formula 1 Team Principal role at Ferrari.
The former Red Bull boss has been back in the headlines after giving a revealing interview to The Times.
Horner, who was sacked by the Milton-Keynes-based squad last year in July, has been keen to mark a return to the paddock.
And when he hinted at Ferrari being a possible destination he could not refuse, many latched onto this to speculate whether he has been in contact with the Scuderia to replace Fred Vasseur.
Brundle quite firmly refuted those suggestions after having rang Horner up himself.
“Being the Ferrari driver or the Ferrari team principal is the best job in Formula 1 and the worst job in Formula 1, all at the same time,” he said to Sky Sports F1.
“Because the pressure and the hero-zero curve in that team are vertical sometimes, in terms of whether you’re amazing or whether you’re useless, so you’ve got to navigate your way through that.
“There was a lot of talk of Christian Horner this week going [to Ferrari],” he added. “So I rang Christian to find out all about it, and he said, ‘I was just being polite and respectful about Ferrari in another interview I did, and it took on a whole…’
“It was sort of two plus two equals seven and a half, I think, on that.”

Christian Horner “not interested” to pursue F1 comeback anytime soon says Brundle
The last 12 months have seen Horner being linked to a handful of teams in the paddock, including a potential minority stake acquisition in Alpine.
BYD, the Chinese EV giants, have also been dropped in the conversation, with it being suggested that the Briton is going to spearhead its charge into F1.
But Brundle believes Horner is “not interested” in fast-tracking a way back into the paddock, at least not anytime soon.
“I don’t think Christian is interested in that,” Brundle added.
“As he told it to me, that he’s interested in anything in particular at the moment in Formula 1, until the right opportunity comes up.”
Circling back to Ferrari, Horner believes that as long as Lewis Hamilton is with the Maranello-based squad, interest in Horner doesn’t really add up, especially after the acrimonious conclusion to the 2021 season.
“Can you imagine Christian and Lewis working together after 2021? That might be an interesting dynamic for a while there,” he concluded.
Ferrari have themselves come on record to explicitly back Vasseur for the Team Principal job, earlier this week.
