Max Verstappen says Red Bull will ‘see what is possible’ at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix on the back of a disappointing end to his home race in Zandvoort.

Verstappen saw an early end to his final Dutch GP after hitting the barriers in the final corner of Lap 1.

The Dutch driver walked away from the crash unharmed, but it was a less-than-ideal send-off for Zandvoort as a track on the F1 calendar.

However, he is already looking forward to ‘see what is possible’ for Red Bull in Monza. Red Bull have ran well at the Italian track in the past, with Verstappen alone taking three victories in 2022, 2023, and 2025.

“Not being able to finish the race in Zandvoort was disappointing,” Verstappen said ahead of the weekend.

“But it was still really special to see the fans at the circuit one last time and thank them for all the memories.”

“We are heading to Monza, after a reset, and it is difficult to predict how competitive we will be there,” he said.

“There are a few things we need to work on to be a bit closer to the pace and to make sure balance of the car is right.”

Max Verstappen ‘always enjoys’ coming to Monza

The fastest track on the calendar is a natural favourite of the four-time world champion.

Monza features long straights that will show the capabilities of the Red Bull Ford powertrain, which the FIA ranked as having the strongest Internal Combustion Engine on the grid.

Battery and energy recovery will play a big role in performance however, creating a unique challenge.

“Monza is one of my favourite tracks and I like that it is an old-school, fast circuit; I always enjoy coming here and seeing the passionate fans,” Verstappen said.

“It is a track that we have typically performed well at before so we will wait and see what is possible.”
