Max Verstappen has lashed out at the RB22’s “super dangerous” rear-wing after a near catastrophic crash at the 2026 Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
Verstappen was en route to a third-placed finish at Silverstone, on Sunday, before crashing out of the British GP with only a handful of laps to go.
The Dutchman endured a high-speed incident heading into Stowe after a failure on his RB22’s ‘Macarena’ rear-wing induced a snap of oversteer.
Looking back, Verstappen slammed the rear-wing, deeming it “super dangerous” and even the cause for his qualifying shunt, at Austria, just one week ago.
“Yeah, like Austria, but a different fault that’s ended up with the same outcome,” he said.
“So again, while turning into the corner, the rear wing is not fully attaching, and you lose a lot of downforce for that. You just spin off the track.
“At this point, it’s super dangerous, because I could have really hurt myself two times. I was lucky in Austria; I was lucky here. But that’s why you get really fed up with it.”

Potential F1 British GP podium was “not deserved” – Max Verstappen
The Red Bull driver had made a quick getaway off the line, quickly picking up places.
On his opening stint on the Medium tyres, Verstappen had strong race pace, even pushing his way into the top-four, at Russell’s expense, on pure pace.
That said, his podium charge withered away once he pitted onto the Hards.
And despite running third at the time of his crash, Verstappen conceded that even if he had taken the chequered flag, the result would have been wholly underserved.
“[I was] lucky, of course, with everything that happened around me,” Verstappen explained.
“With the penalty for Lewis, a slow puncture for George, Kimi’s problem. So, even if we would have finished on the podium, you take it, but it’s not deserved at all, because on the hard tyres, we were really slow.
“I don’t know how I kept George and Lewis behind for so long. The whole weekend I had a terrible balance, no top speed compared to the other car as well in the garage.
“And then, the race was exactly the same, which I already predicted.”
Up next for Red Bull and Verstappen is the iconic Spa-Francorchamps for the penultimate race weekend of 2026 before the summer break.
