F1 Academy returns to screens this weekend as the series enters the midway point of the championship at the iconic Silverstone Circuit.

Drivers return to the championship after a month’s break from the Canadian race weekend. However, for the first time this season, drivers will take part in an inaugural race weekend, as the series joins the line-up for the coveted Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

Whilst many drivers have previously raced around this circuit in other championships, this weekend marks the first time F1 Academy machinery hits the famous venue.

The 5.891 km circuit features 18 corners of unfamiliarity for the drivers to navigate this weekend. Famous for its high speeds and the iconic Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel sweeping sequence, Silverstone promises an exciting two races for these young hopefuls to master.

As the championship is officially at the halfway point of the 2026 season, this weekend provides a crucial moment for drivers who may have struggled in the first two rounds. With 30 points separating third and ninth place, a good result in Silverstone could turn around one’s championship hopes.

Silverstone Wild Card revealed

As accustomed in F1 Academy, a Wild Card entry will join the grid for Round 3 of the championship. Swiss driver Chiara Battig will take on the championship this weekend, with the backing of Wella Professionals.

Battig has an impressive resume at just 16-years-old. Before she made the step into single-seaters, the Swiss had already collected three junior karting series titles.

Last season, the Red Bull Junior was selected as an F1 ACADEMY DISCOVER YOUR DRIVE karter in the Champions of the Future Academy Program International Series. Additionally, in her first year of single-seaters, she claimed six top-10 finishes in the F4 Saudi Arabian Championship. Continuing her success this year, she reached a maiden podium in the 2026 Formula Winter Series.

Importantly, Battig has already had success in Silverstone this season. The 16-year-old claimed a third-place finish in British F4 earlier this season, with HITECH.

Reflecting on her F1 Academy debut, Battig explained her excitement to join the series at one of the most iconic venues Motorsport has to offer.

“Silverstone is one of the most legendary circuits in motorsport,” Battig said.

“So making my F1 ACADEMY debut here as the Wild Card driver is a dream come true.

“I’m excited to challenge myself, learn from every session, and show what I’m capable of on such a big stage with the support of Wella behind me.

I’m focused on making every lap count and leaving a strong impression.”

Championship intensifies at the mid point of the season

Hometown hero Alisha Palmowski has been in sublime form this season. In just two rounds, the Briton has claimed as many victories and a further podium. This consistent form has gifted her with the championship lead heading into Silverstone. The Red Bull-backed junior currently sits on 78 points, 25 away from her closest rival, Emma Felbermayr.

But Palmowski can’t get too comfortable at the top of the standings. Despite her incredible performance this season, Audi-backed Felbermayr is within a feature race victory of her rival. In a series where chaos typically ensues, both drivers must capitalise off each others weak points.

The championship top three ahead of Silverstone

Further back in the field, the battle for third in the championship is also intensifying. Currently, Campos’ Megan Bruce occupies the final championship podium space. However, 20 points are separating third and tenth. Heading into a weekend of unpredictability, that order is expected to shift drastically, with drivers throughout the midfield looking for valuable points in their season campaigns.

Whilst Palmowski is the current championship leader, she is not the only British driver to partake in a home race. Palmowski is joined by Bruce, Ella Lloyd, Ella Stevens and Rachel Robertson as the home crowd favourites in Silverstone. Crucially, these drivers will be hoping to secure a good result in front of their home crowd.
