Sergio Perez teases “big” upgrades for Cadillac at the 2026 Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix as the team aims to catch up to the “midfield group”.

The General-Motors-backed team’s debut season in F1 has been an uphill climb so far.

Seven rounds into the 2026 campaign, Cadillac is the only Constructor yet to score a championship point.

That opportunity was taken away from Perez at the Monaco GP, after a post-race penalty saw Fernando Alonso score Aston Martin’s first point of 2026.

That said, Cadillac has shown some strong progress, especially when seen in the context of its F1 project being one built from scratch.

On pure pace, Perez and Valtteri Bottas’ package is arguably the tenth-fastest, clear of Aston Martin. But Perez isolated tyre wear as the biggest limitation of Cadillac’s 2026 challenger that is holding them back.

“Whenever we have a stint longer than 15 laps, we seem to struggle a lot with a massive cliff,” he said.

“We understand pretty well where that is coming from, and we have a pretty good idea on where to fix it and how, but it will just take a few races from now.

“The good thing is that we know, and obviously, Barcelona is the greatest place to show you where you are lacking, so that was a positive for us.”

Sergio Perez teases “big” Cadillac upgrades at F1 Austrian GP

Round eight of F1’s latest era sees the teams move onto the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian GP weekend.

The former Red Bull driver has revealed that the team is set to bring an extensive set of upgrades – aimed to fulfill the ambitious target of closing up to the midfield pack.

“It’s good information for the team,” Perez said referencing the data the team gathered at the race weekend at Barcelona, last weekend.

“We just have to make sure that we are able to come out on top, and we are bringing a big package for Austria. I hope that will bring us into the midfield group.”

While this upgrade package is aimed at unlocking raw performance from its package, Perez believes that the British GP, in July, is where he expects the team to really start stretching its legs over its rivals.

“It [the upgrades] will improve it [the limitations of the car] though, and I think we are looking forward to…hopefully, Silverstone will be the place that we will resolve it,” he concluded.

The Red Bull Ring has been a relatively happy hunting ground for Perez having scored one out of his 39 F1 podiums at the track, back in 2023.
