Formula 1 legends Martin Brundle and Jenson Button have taken to social media to quash speculation that they are part of a commentary reshuffle at Sky Sports F1.
Last week, it was confirmed that Brundle, who has been a fixture in the commentary box across three separate channels since 1997, is scaling back his work in the booth.
The two-time Le Mans winner, who drove in F1 for teams including Tyrrell, Benetton, Ligier and Jordan, said he was to be present at 16 of the 22 races this year, two less than last year.
It led to some widespread media speculation that Jenson Button, who has been a part of Sky’s coverage for several years, has been eyed as Brundle’s long-term replacement.
After some fans posted on social media expressing their concern that Brundle was being phased out, the 66-year-old refuted the claims.
“Utter clickbait nonsense Margaret [a particular fan whose tweet he replied to], don’t be concerned. I’ve done 16 races per year for a good while now and continue to do so.
“In fact, with the cancellations, I am at 15 of the remaining 19 races this season, subject to world events, of course, as always.”

Button is often utilised by Sky as one of the commentators that takes Brundle’s place when he is not available, but the 2009 World Champion followed Brundle in denying such a plan is in place.
“I am not positioned to replace Martin, he’s the man when it comes to commentary and insights,” he wrote. “As much as I love jumping in when Martin is taking a well-deserved break, I wouldn’t want to do more as I’ve got enough going on!”
Sky has made a number of high-profile changes to its on-air team over the last few years, with veterans Damon Hill and Johnny Herbert stepping down, along with former IndyCar driver Danica Patrick.
Brundle is expected to be back for the Miami Grand Prix on May 1-3.
