George Russell topped the timesheets in final practice for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, in a session which saw both McLarens finish at the bottom of the order.

The Mercedes driver’s 1:34.054s saw him take top spot ahead of Max Verstappen, two tenths behind.

Alex Albon was third, with Isack Hadjar fourth. Lewis Hamilton was fifth, over a second off Russell’s time, with the second Mercedes of Andrea Kimi Antonelli sixth.

The session started with a damp track, as intermittent spits of rain persisted to fall upon Sin City. Drivers opted for Intermediate tyres, which were wearing off quickly.

Albon’s Williams spun at Turn 5, with team-mate Carlos Sainz telling team radio shortly afterwards that the conditions were now “nearly ready for slicks”.

This was despite the lap times being around 10 seconds off the fastest times of Thursday, and the times only began to tumble towards the end of the hour.

Liam Lawson was seventh, with the Aston Martins of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso eighth and ninth.

Pierre Gasly’s Alpine completed the top 10, with Oliver Bearman just behind in 11th.

Sainz was 12th, followed by Gabriel Bortoleto and Bearman’s team-mate Esteban Ocon in the second Haas car. Charles Leclerc could only muster 15th.

Franco Colapinto was 16th, with Nico Hulkenberg 17th, and Yuki Tsunoda 18th, with the two McLarens opting to forego much track time as the track sufficiently dried, condemning them to bottom of the pack, with Oscar Piastri 19th and Lando Norris 20th.
