Arrow McLaren has announced that it has terminated its commercial relationship with Juncos Hollinger Racing effective immediately.
The move comes as fans of JHR driver Agustin Canapino have sent online threats to Arrow McLaren driver Theo Pourchaire following this past weekend’s Detroit Grand Prix.
Both teams issued statements when the latest round of fan abuse came to light, as did Canapino the following day.
Canapino’s statement seemed to discredit the accusation that his fan’s threats were severe enough to warrant a response, however, and he said that he hopes this was the ‘first and last time’ he would have to address the concerns.
It seems a combination of responses from JHR and its driver have led to an immediate termination of the two team’s commercial partnership that just began this season.
“Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team has terminated its commercial alliance with Juncos Hollinger Racing, effective immediately,” read the statement published by Arrow McLaren Thursday morning.
“This decision follows actions that occurred earlier this week on social media in regards to an on-track incident at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix.
“As reflected in the team’s social media community code, Arrow McLaren will not tolerate any form of abuse or discrimination and totally condemns the online abuse directed toward our team and driver.”
This is only the latest incident of Canapino’s fans over-reacting to an on-track incident and threatening a fellow IndyCar driver.
Callum Ilott received two rounds of similar threats last season while he was racing for JHR, before he was let go by the team at the end of the year.
“As of today, our strategic partnership with Arrow McLaren has come to a conclusion’” read Juncos Hollinger Racing’s statement.
“We appreciate the time spent with McLaren over past months. They are a world class organization which we enjoy competing against week in and week out.
“While the results of the partnership did not mature, we have the upmost respect for them and are confident in the future of Juncos Hollinger Racing.”
Arrow McLaren and Juncos Hollinger Racing announced their commercial partnership in October, and it was only in effect for six rounds of the 2024 season.
