Pascal Wehrlein said that his Tag Heuer Porsche team chose not to dwell on Antonio Felix da Costa’s disqualification from Saturday’s Misano E-Prix, and put all their focus into Sunday’s race.
The German drove a typically calm race to take victory, inheriting the lead from Nissan’s Oliver Rowland on the last lap after the Yorkshireman ran out of energy.
Wehrlein told Motorsport Week that, despite his team-mate’s heartbreaking result on Saturday, the team’s professional attitude put him in a place to work towards rectifying the weekend.
“We just reset it, we know that yesterday, Antonio won but also, I could’ve been there without the incident,” he said, adding: “so I think the best thing we could do was try to do our best possible job, trying to do redemption and focus on the job, not be too frustrated about yesterday, because [Sunday] is another opportunity, and we took that one.
“Overall, we know there was more in this weekend, but still happy about it.”
With Monaco coming-up next week, Wehrlein believes the Porsche package is better-placed than it was last year, and is confident in the car to bring him further success around the principality.
“For Monaco, it’s a different track.
“Last year, we didn’t do that well there so for sure there’s a bit of catchup work to do, generally we are feeling optimistic, especially as we have improved qualifying and have a strong race car, so I see no reason we shouldn’t be competitive there.”
