The inaugural F1 Academy champion Marta Garcia joined the all-female Iron Dames motorsport project ahead of her FRECA 2024 debut in May.
The Spaniard took the inaugural F1 Academy title in Austin last year with two races to spare, winning a fully-funded seat racing in the 2024 FRECA junior series driving for the title-winning team PREMA.
Garcia said: “I am delighted to become an Iron Dame. It’s a great opportunity for me, for my present and future. I’m aware of how much the Iron Dames programme has done for women in motorsport and I’m incredibly proud to join the squad.
“I’m looking forward to working together this year and I hope to really get the best out of every chance we will have this season.”
With victories in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy and the Trofeo delle Industrie, Garcia had a decorated karting career before entering single-seaters.
She competed in the Spanish F4 Championship in 2017 before moving on to W Series in 2019 where she secured fourth place in the Championship on her debut.
The Spanish driver experienced great success in the first-ever season of F1 Academy, racking up seven wins and five pole positions in the all-female racing series.
Garcia joined the iconic Iron Dames line-up ahead of her debut in the FRECA 2024 season set to kick off in Hockenheim on May 10th.
The Iron Dames project was established in 2018 by former FIA Women in Motorsport Commission President Deborah Mayer, and has since adopted 20 female athletes.
Becoming the 12th representative of the Iron Dames motorsport project, Garcia will join the likes of Mercedes-AMG Junior Driver Doriane Pin donning the hot pink livery.
Recently expanding their project to rallying, the Iron Dames are aiming to employ female talent from a range of motorsports to strengthen their line-up.
Iron Dames founder Mayer said: “Marta brings a wealth of talent and experience to our family and we are confident that she will make a significant impact on and off the track. Her arrival marks another exciting chapter in the Iron Dames journey.
“As we continue to grow, we remain true to our commitment to provide a supportive environment for female athletes to flourish and excel in competitive racing, and in doing so inspire others.”
Enjoying recent success in the European Le Mans Series season-opener, Iron Dame Sarah Bovy took pole position at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The Iron Dames now have female drivers competing in rallying, endurance racing, and F1 Academy, with recent signings expanding their line-up to karting.
