IndyCar officiating has announced that three drivers will receive grid penalties for this weekend’s race in Markham, Ontario.
All three penalties come from unapproved engine changes leading into the weekend.
Two of the three drivers receiving penalties drive for Ed Carpenter Racing, with Alexander Rossi and Christian Rasmussen both taking new Chevrolet engines.
The third driver is Marcus Armstrong, who drives the #66 Meyer Shank Racing Honda.
Armstrong suffered an engine failure during last weekend’s race in Portland, and was forced to retire early. The problem necessitated a full engine swap, thus resulting in the penalty.
All drivers have exceeded their engine allocations for the season, meaning they now receive grid drops for each new engine used this year.
All three drivers will drop six positions from where they qualify, and will stop earning manufacturer points related to the engine manufacturer’s championship.
Driver and entrant points will continue to be earned as normal.
The inaugural race around the streets of Markham will take place on Sunday at 12:00 eastern time.
