Norris’ podium faux pas breaks Verstappen’s trophy

Race winner Max Verstappen (NLD) Red Bull Racing celebrates on the podium. Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 12, Hungarian Grand Prix, Sunday 23rd July 2023. Budapest, Hungary.

For the second successive race weekend Lando Norris finished runner-up to Max Verstappen with a flawless display at the Hungaroring.

Verstappen dominated proceedings in Hungary for a seventh successive victory while Norris finished second, as he did at Silverstone, to register back-to-back podiums.

After being presented with their respective trophies Norris slammed his champagne bottle down onto the winners’ rostrum, as has become his style.

But the impact caused Verstappen’s porcelain trophy to roll onto the floor of the podium and it broke into a couple of pieces.

“Um… I’m not sure [what happened],” joked Norris. “Er… yeah, not sure, Max just placed it too close to the edge!. It fell over, I guess. Not my problem, it’s his!”
