Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz led a 1-2 for the team during the opening practice session for the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Several young drivers got behind the wheel of Formula 1 machinery, per 2022 regulations, but a handful of them had dramas.

Power unit problems truncated the session for both Alpine debutant Jack Doohan and long-term Haas reserve Pietro Fittipaldi, while the session itself came to an early conclusion when Liam Lawson halted his smoky AlphaTauri at the Foro Sol.
