Mercedes to run Pride Star on W13 at next three events
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mercedes will run a Pride Star on its W13 across the next three grands prix in order to mark Pride Month.

This weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix is the first to take place this year in June, the month in which LGBTQ+ communities around the world are celebrated.

The rainbow star will run on the W13s driven by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell across the next three events in Azerbaijan, Canada and Britain.

Hamilton and Russell will also sport the star on their helmets at the upcoming events.

Mercedes has previously won in Azerbaijan on three occasions – courtesy of Nico Rosberg in 2016, Hamilton in 2018 and Valtteri Bottas in 2019 – but has yet to claim a victory in 2022.

It enters the eighth round of the season third in the Constructors’ Championship, 101 points behind leaders Red Bull Racing.

    Let’s focus on F1 racing…not race.
All corporations advertise equality even if they don’t believe it themselves. Got to grab every dollar! The knee thing is EMBARRASSING!!! It is ALL phoney. The world has more diversity than in any time on planet earth…yet they can never get enough. The needs of the few out weight the many.

Hamilton is so caught up in this he can’t win any more. George is going to KICK his ass all season even when they get the car working.

Typical corporate bullshit. They have made the same update to the logo on their website, as have BMW and many companies in other fields. However, the change is limited to markets like the UK, USA, and Europe, where the message has already been accepted, and equality is the norm. Significantly, the logos have not changed in the Middle East or China. No rainbow colours on display there, and Disney is still editing a black man out of their movie poster for Chinese eyes. It’s easy for corporations like Mercedes, BMW, and Disney to preach to the converted, but they won’t stick their necks out and show the same commitment in places where it might actually do some good.
