Formula 1 has formally outlined its schedule for pre-season testing ahead of the 2022 season.

The championship is this season introducing an overhaul of the technical regulations in a bid to produce closer and more exciting racing.

The opening round of the 23-event season is due to take place in Bahrain on March 18-20.

Before then two pre-season tests will take place, the first in Spain, and the second in Bahrain.

The opening test, from February 23 to 25, will be held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

It will not be open to spectators and there will be no live TV coverage, though an end-of-day round-up is set to be produced.

The second test, from March 10 to 12, will be open to spectators and live TV coverage will be provided by Formula 1.

As per previous seasons each team is permitted to field one car on each of the six days of running.

Several teams are expected to undertake brief shakedowns – in the form of filming days, where running is limited to 100km on promotional tyres – ahead of the opening test.

Aston Martin is currently scheduled to be the first team to display its 2022 car, the AMR22, on February 10.
