Hamilton issued penalty points following Verstappen crash
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Lewis Hamilton has been handed two penalty points on his super licence for his role in the collision with Max Verstappen at the British Grand Prix.

The two title protagonists crashed at high-speed into the Copse corner on the opening lap, with Verstappen suffering a 51G impact with the barrier.

Mercedes argued that it was a racing incident, while Red Bull fumed over Hamilton’s driving, with Dr Helmut Marko suggesting that the 36-year-old should be handed a race ban.

Hamilton was issued a 10-second time penalty during the race, however the seven-time world champion still emerged victorious, overtaking Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for the win with three laps remaining.

The result saw Hamilton cut into Verstappen’s championship lead, with the gap now resting at eight points ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the last race before the summer break.

The Mercedes driver currently has four penalty points on his licence, having had four wiped from his record after the Austrian Grand Prix earlier this month.

Any driver that receives 12 penalty points over a 12 month period is handed a race ban.

Ten seconds in the pits and two licence points is nowhere near enough sanction against a dirty driver who could have easily killed Max Verstappen, and would not have been in the least remorseful had he done so.

Dirty driver? Hamilton’s record shows he’s one of the cleanest on the grid, but why let facts spoil your narrative, Dani. Usually it’s Hamilton backing off from Verstappen barging his way around the track, in order to avoid the crash. Besides which, the official race marshal’s guide (as has been reported widely) stipulates that if an overtaking car is half a car’s length or more alongside, the car in front must leave it track space. In spite of having acres of space to his left, Verstappen pinched Hamilton hard into the right hand track edge, crossed in front of Hamilton’s line and got hit as a result. Nothing dirty going on from Hamilton, just hard and fair racing, and a misjudgement from Verstappen, who thought he could bully Hamilton into backing off. If Verstappen refuses to back-off in a close fight he can’t expect other drivers to. End of story.

FIA did everything they could to make sure that POS won his “home” race. Not worth watching F1, F2, F3, FE. None of it, its all Social Justice, virtue signaling BS.

If the FIA ‘did everything they could’ why would they give him a penalty in the first place? It’s quite clear from your username you’re a massive racist and you’re saying this because you don’t want a black man doing well. Grow up.

If the shoe had been on the other foot , the Verstappen supporters would be lauding him for such a ” brave and brilliant move “Take your medicine and go to bed. I’ll never drink another Red Bull energy drink (though they are my favorite). Dr. Marko can whine all he wants , and smarmy Christian Horner can make his rude comments , but we know it’s all about the MONEY.

This is assuming a lot. I happen to be a Verstappen supporter, but the other race where he eliminated himself I also said that it was a bad move on his own part. Don’t assume that because someone is a supporter of someone, he or she thinks their idol doesn’t do anything wrong. If you’re going to argue about money and Red Bull, take a look at what happened after the race, who’s stocks went up? Exactly, Toto’s. So calm down and have another energy drink, you taurine addicted fool.

I kinda wonder if the stewards had not started a trend recently of giving penalties for every clash on track (see Norris and Perez) whether there would have been one here for Lewis. There are incidents which are so close to even-stevens that penalties seem stupid, but they’ve decided there must always be fault somewhere.

I think Fernando has this one pretty well right – it was pretty even. Max does not have licence to expect everyone to cede to him every time, and he needed to be reminded of that.

Two points??? Two?? Perez got 4 for making another driver go slightly wide twice… Hamilton, once again, punts a red bull off the track, causing a major crash at 51g and he gets 2… Rediculous. Not to mention his failure to apologise to Max. Hamilton had more than a car and a half width of space between Max and the track boundaries, and he pulled a tighter line two other times he made the exact same move.
Let’s just face it. Hamilton might be a good driver, but he’s a damned child when things don’t go his way. Not to mention this conveniently happens mere days after the “Max is one DNF away in the title fight” comment from Toto… And I’m sorry, but Hamiltons behaviour on the podium just shows how little he cared about the fact he could have killed someone. Had that been an armco barrier, it could well have been just like Grosjean’s crash.
