Peugeot confirms 2022 WEC hypercar entry

Peugeot has announced that it will be participating in the WEC hypercar class, starting in 2022.

The French manufacturer's parent company, PSA, released a statement on Twitter that read: "Proud to announce our participation in the world’s premier endurance racing championship WEC from 2022 with a Hybrid Power Hypercar. Stay tuned, more to come at the beginning of 2020!"

Peugeot has a sizeable history in endurance racing and at Le Mans, including wins in 1992, 1993 and 2009. Peugeot's last Le Mans outing as a manufacturer came in 2010.

PSA motorsport director Jean-Marc Finot commented: "I am very excited at the prospect of channelling the skills and passion of my team into this project.

"It is a new challenge and I know our experts will rise to it with another demonstration of their will to win with teams financed by the [PSA] Group’s brands, fuelled by their long experience of top-flight FIA championships and hunger for success."

The announcement makes Peugeot the third major manufacturer to join the new Hypercar class after Toyota and Aston Martin, with privateers Glickenhaus and ByKolles also set to join.
