Pierre Gasly unveils Anthoine Hubert helmet tribute at Monza

Pierre Gasly's Antoine Hubert tribute helmet

Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly has unveiled a tribute helmet to Anthoine Hubert, who passed away last weekend.

Gasly and Hubert were karting rivals when they were younger and even lived together whilst they studied.

The Frenchman lost his life following a violent crash during the Formula 2 Feature race at Spa-Francorchamps last week.

Teams and drivers have carried the #RacingForAnthoine sticker on their cars this and last weekend, but Gasly unveiled his personal tribute to Hubert on Saturday ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.

The helmet, designed by Adrien Paviot, carries a pink colour scheme similar to Hubert's Arden car, plus a French tricolor and the initials AH on the rear with the words "Forever with us Tonio".

Gasly also paid tribute to Hubert on social media earlier this week, posting a heartfelt message along with several photos.

"I still can’t believe what just happened. You deserved way better Tonio. 22 is just too young," he wrote. "14 years of friendship, started racing together, then became friends, roommates and classmates.

“We did all our childhood together. You pushed me on and off track, to become a better driver, you pushed me at the gym to become a better athlete, you pushed me at school to be a better person today.

“You were such a humble guy, bloody fast and a hard worker, it was great to grow up together. I’m lucky and grateful for all the times and moments we shared during all these years. It’s just so hard to believe what happened. We will all try to make you proud from up there. I’ll keep chasing the dreams we both had since very little. I will miss you a lot my friend.”
