Marta Garcia beats Jamie Chadwick to Norisring pole
Marta Garcia will start from pole for Saturday's W Series fourth round at the Norisring after pipping series leader Jamie Chadwick by just 0.081s.
Garcia claimed pole with a time of 50.712s and was just one of six to dip below the 51s barrier during Saturday morning's qualifying session.
Chadwick had her final flying laps interrupted by a yellow flag after Shea Holbrook went off at the hairpin, bringing the session to a premature end as drivers were forced to back off in the closing stage.
Fabienne Wohlwend lines up third to lead the second row having set a time of 50.921, two-tenths adrift of Garcia's pole time in what was a closely fought session with the top ten covered by less than half a second, although the short circuit was a contributing factor.
Friday's fastest driver, Garcia Rdest, was fourth quickest and along with Beitske Visser and Jessica Hawkins dropped below the 51s barrier during their runs. Hawkins had held the pole slot for much of the 30-minute session before dropping down the order.
Vicky Piria was seventh ahead of Emma Kimilainen who missed out on the previous two races through injury. Miki Koyama and Sabre Cook completed the top ten.
There was a brief red flag caused by Alice Powell thanks to a technical fault. Powell's weekend hasn't been a smooth one after crashing on Friday and spending time in hospital with a sprained wrist, though was cleared to take part this weekend.
