DTM race, Super Formula test, among Formula EM prizes

A one-off DTM race and a Super Formula test are among the prizes on offer for participants in this year’s revised Formula European Masters series.

The ITR-run category is a continuation of the series that existed under the European Formula 3 banner in 2018.

The Formula 3 name, meanwhile, will continue in the form of the FIA Formula 3 championship that has replaced the GP3 Series on Formula 1’s support bill.

The top three drivers in the 2019 championship will receive an outing in a DTM car during the post-season young driver tests.

One driver will receive a one-race guest drive in the 2020 DTM championship while the series’ champion will be invited to participate in a one-day Super Formula test.

Paul di Resta and Pascal Wehrlein both progressed to Formula 1 after taking the DTM title while Stoffel Vandoorne and Pierre Gasly participated in Super Formula before making the step up.

“DTM and Super Formula are both proven means to graduate to Formula 1,” said Walter Mertes, CEO of Formula EM promoter Formel 3 Vermarktungs.

“And the Formula European Masters opens the doors to both series. That’s really great for our young drivers.

“With good performances in the end-of-season tests, they can attract the attention of DTM manufacturers and teams for the following season.

“And the one who proves to be the best overall will be rewarded with a DTM guest appearance.”
