Antonio Felix da Costa claims second Macau F3 victory

FIA

MS Amlin Andretti Formula E driver Antonio Felix da Costa claimed his second Macau Grand Prix victory on his return to the Guia Circuit.

The Portuguese racer last competed in the famous Macau Formula 3 race in 2012, beating fellow Formula E driver Felix Rosenqvist to the win.

Both drivers returned to Macau for 2016, with da Costa lining up for the main event on pole position after winning the qualifying race for Carlin. However, he dropped to second at the start after being passed by Sergio Sette Camara.

Da Costa also had to hold off Callum Ilott through the opening few corners after a close three-car battle for the lead, eventually slotting into second as Sette Camara built up a small lead over the chasing pack.

But the safety car soon appeared after Nikita Mazepin crashed out. Da Costa used the slipstream on the restart to claim back the lead and drive off into the distance.

His advantage was cut by another safety car to clear Nick Cassidy’s damaged F3 machine, with a three-lap sprint to the chequered flag when the race restarted.

Da Costa managed to hold onto first place to claim his second Macau win, with Rosenqvist finishing second (just like in 2012) after a strong first lap. He then made a late move on Sette Camara, who had to settle for third.

Kenta Yamashita took fourth, having claimed back the position from Ilott, ahead of top Macau rookie Jake Hughes in sixth.
