Ferrari reveals car name for 2023 F1 challenger
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ferrari has announced the name of its 2023 car, having kept the title under wraps throughout the winter break.

Ahead of next week’s launch, the Italian squad has confirmed that the challenger will be labelled the SF-23.

The car name returns to the ‘SF’ format – which stands for Scuderia Ferrari – that has been used since the 2015 season.

The one exception was last year’s car, which was called the F1-75 as it commemorated 75 years since Ferrari’s first production car was released.

Ferrari enters the 2023 campaign looking to improve on its 2022 form, where it returned to the top step of the podium following two difficult seasons.

Charles Leclerc took three grand prix wins, while Carlos Sainz secured his maiden F1 victory at Silverstone.

However, on-track errors, strategy blunders and reliability woes hampered its World Championship hopes.

Leclerc and Sainz will return to the Ferrari cockpit this year, with both being under contract until the end of the 2024 campaign.

The car will officially launch on February 14.

Ferrari’s preparations for the new campaign have been in full swing in recent days, with it showcasing a video last week that presented the SF-23 being fired into life for the first time.

The team has brought in Frederic Vasseur to oversee operations as Team Principal following the departure of Mattia Binotto at the end of last year.
