Is Red Bull F1 set to link up with Ford?

Red Bull could be on course to announce a partnership with Ford, one of the most iconic and recognisable car manufacturers.

A report from Mirror Sport says that the prospect of the two parties joining forces is a real possibility.

It writes that “a deal is expected, though pen is yet to be put to paper”.

The rumours come amid the build-up to Red Bull’s 2023 car launch, which will take place in New York this week on February 3.

The energy drink-backed squad enters the year looking to defend its dominant 2022 campaign that saw it clinch 17 Grand Prix wins and both championships.

F1 business journalist Vincenzo Landino also says that Ford is sending members from its social team to attend the 2023 launch.

“Red Bull’s livery launch date is 3 February in New York City,” he wrote on Twitter I have word from some of my contacts that Ford is sending some content creators and influencers to NYC on the same date. Coincidence?”

Red Bull is known to be open to entering into a partnership with another brand, having held talks with Porsche in 2022.

However, discussions broke down amid a disagreement over the control of the team.

Ford has a long history with F1 and is one of the most successful engine manufacturers in the sport. It has won 176 races as a supplier, trailing only Ferrari (243) and Mercedes (212).

Earlier this month, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem teased that a new manufacturer would likely soon be signed up to compete in F1.

“In a short time, maybe as early as next week, another manufacturer could sign for the 2026 engine regulations,” he said.

Ford, too, admitted that the current popularity of F1 meant that an entry would be considered going forward.

However, the finer details of a potential deal are unknown as Red Bull is currently working on its own engine for the new 2026 power unit regulations.
