Marko backs Red Bull to be stronger despite 2023 F1 limitations

Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko says that he is “cautiously optimistic” that Red Bull will be even stronger in 2023.

The Milton Keynes-based squad enjoyed a dominant 2022 campaign that saw it cruise to both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships with several rounds to spare.

However, during the season it was found guilty by the FIA of breaching last year’s budget cap of $145 million.

As a result, it was fined $7m and had aerodynamic testing time docked – adding to the lower amount it will already have as a result of finishing atop the Constructors’ standings.

But Marko says that as the aerodynamic regulations are staying largely the same for 2023, it doesn’t expect any major challenges.

“We are of course sitting with this reduction of hours in the wind tunnel. That means we have to work very efficiently as a team,” Marko told ServusTV.

“All the things we try out have to hit the mark immediately.

“But fortunately the technical changes for next year are not that big. It means we have a good basic package.”

Marko also praised two-time World Champion Max Verstappen for the impact that he is having on the team.

“The team also stays together and Max is still getting slightly better. As a result, we can go into the new season cautiously optimistic.

“We have a tradition at Red Bull that we don’t really finish the car until the very last moment. But the concept of the car is already there. We can indeed build on a very successful 2022 car.”
