Ocon quickest in final Sao Paulo GP practice

Esteban Ocon (FRA) Alpine F1 Team A522. Brazilian Grand Prix, Friday 11th November 2022. Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon set the fastest time during final practice ahead of Formula 1’s São Paulo Grand Prix.

Teams focused on longer runs, with no need to chase one-lap pace, meaning the quickest times were some way adrift of the ultimate pace.

Ocon used Soft tyres to set a time of 1:14.604s to finish almost two-tenths of a second clear of Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.

Ocon’s time was almost three seconds slower than Perez’s pace-setting time from Friday’s opening session.

George Russell was third for Mercedes, ahead of Alpine’s Fernando Alonso and World Champion Max Verstappen.

F1 Sprint pole sitter Kevin Magnussen wound up ninth for Haas, one spot behind team-mate Mick Schumacher.

Williams’ prospective 2023 racer Logan Sargeant was handed an additional practice outing, in place of Alex Albon, in order to boost his Super Licence prospects.

Sargeant successfully completed the required 100km to pick up another point and now has 31 of the 40 he needs to race in Formula 1 next year.

Sargeant is currently third in the Formula 2 standings ahead of next weekend’s season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Nicholas Latifi was the only driver to have a minor moment in the session when he locked up into Juncao and took to the grass.

Saturday’s 24-lap Sprint Race is scheduled for 16:30 local time
