Fernando Alonso says that he has “no doubts” about his trust in Formula 1’s governing body amid the current speculation of certain teams breaching the financial regulations.

Among the teams who are rumoured to have exceeded the 2021 cost cap is Aston Martin, who Alonso is signed up to join at the end of the current 2022 season.

While no punishment is set in stone if a team is found to have breached the regulations, the reduction of next year’s cost cap is an option the FIA could use against them.

When asked about his current trust levels in the FIA, the two-time champion replied: “Very high, to be honest. As I’ve said a few times, I have a lot of trust in Mohammed, the President, and his team.

“I think there are still a few things on the race weekends and consistency and other topics that we face, yeah, race after that we are improving, but they are willing to learn and to improve as well.

“I trust completely what they are doing and what will be the outcome next week on this cost cap and how the sport is moving to the future. So, I think I have no doubts on anything.”

Alonso went on the explain how he feels about the cost cap and his idea of the appropriate punishment for a team if they had broken it, stating: “It’s a difficult topic from our side, driver point of view.

“I think it’s not really relevant here and we rely on our teams to really control everything they do. I think it’s a very difficult topic, because there is a lot of things that we need to make sure that they are controlled.

“The budget cap is one thing, but there are many teams with different structures, with different things, with their own circuit in their own factories. Things that we need to control a lot. So, it has to be really well done.”
