Sainz was 0.370s behind Perez while Verstappen was a few hundredths of a second further back.

AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly showed encouraging place to classify in fifth, with Lando Norris continuing his strong Monaco weekend by taking sixth.

Mercedes was once again off the pace, with Lewis Hamilton seventh and George Russell ninth, split by the Haas of Kevin Magnussen.

Fernando Alonso rounded out the top 10 for Alpine.

In a relatively uneventful session Lance Stroll was the only driver to hit the wall after bouncing over the kerb at the second part of Piscine.

Stroll suffered a side-on impact but the damage was relatively light and he was able to return his Aston Martin to the garage.

Qualifying for Formula 1’s Monaco Grand Prix is scheduled for 16:00 local time
