Pirelli has announced the tyres that it will bring to the opening three races of the 2022 Formula 1 season, which includes a skip of the C4 compound for Australia.

Melbourne will host the third round of the season next month, returning to the calendar for the first time since its weekend in 2020 was suddenly cancelled amid the outbreak of Covid-19.

The C5 tyre, the softest in Pirelli’s range of dry compounds, will be available to teams throughout the weekend.

However, the other two dry compounds available will be the C2 and C3, with the Italian marque opting to skip the C4 tyre.

The last time Pirelli didn’t nominate a selection that ran equally through its range was in 2018.

Significant changes have been made to the Albert Park Circuit since F1 last raced there in 2019, with modifications made at several corners.

For the opening race of the year in just under two weeks’ time in Bahrain, teams will run the hardest tyres from Pirelli, with the C1, C2 and C3 constructions in use.

In Saudi Arabia, which this year hosts the second race of the season following its debut towards the end of the 2021 campaign, Pirelli will bring the C2, C3 and C4 tyres.

This year, F1 is using 18-inch wheels, which have been introduced to the sport as part of a wider range of technical regulations.
