Dan Ticktum will move to Formula E for 2022 after securing a deal to join compatriot Oliver Turvey at NIO 333.
Ticktum holds fourth place in this year’s Formula 2 championship and has spoken on occasion of past mistakes leaving him outside of contention for a Formula 1 seat.
He was previously part of Red Bull’s programme, which led to a couple of Formula 1 test runs in 2019, and was affiliated with Williams this year prior to being dropped in the summer.
NIO 333 has now confirmed that it has signed Ticktum for the next Formula E season, which is due to begin in Saudi Arabia in January.
“I am very happy to be racing with the NIO 333 Formula E team,” said Ticktum.
“It’s going to be quite a big challenge as I have not had long to prepare for the test next week, and Formula E is complicated, but it’ll be very exciting.
“There are quite a few different tools you can use as a driver but it’s a totally different experience to Formula 2, so I’m really looking forward to it, both mentally and physically.
“I’ve had a great few days with the team at Silverstone this week and hopefully we can try to make some progress next season and get further up the grid.”
Turvey, who holds a role as a test driver for McLaren, has been with NIO 333 since the end of Formula E’s first season in 2014/15.
NIO 333 has finished at the foot of the Teams’ Championship in each of the last three seasons.
