Sauber-backed youngster Theo Pourchaire is set for his maiden Formula 1 test with Alfa Romeo in Hungary on Wednesday.
Pourchaire, 17, has been affiliated with Sauber’s academy since 2019, the year in which he claimed the German Formula 4 title.
Pourchaire finished runner-up to Alpine junior Oscar Piastri in last year’s Formula 3 championship and this year graduated full-time to Formula 2 with ART Grand Prix.
Pourchaire took his maiden Formula 2 victory from pole position in Monaco and currently holds sixth position in the standings.
The French youngster competed at the most recent round at Silverstone despite sustaining a wrist fracture at the preceding event at Baku.
Alfa Romeo has now organised a test day for Pourchaire in its 2019-spec C38 at the Hungaroring, as permitted under Formula 1’s regulations.
The test is due to run in parallel with Pirelli’s 18-inch tyre test, involving McLaren and Ferrari, which is taking place at the circuit; Mercedes is also in action though will only field a car today (Tuesday).
Alfa Romeo, which holds ninth place in the Constructors’ Championship, has yet to confirm either of its drivers for the 2022 Formula 1 season.
It currently runs 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari-linked Antonio Giovinazzi.
