Sheldon van der Linde has taken pole position for the Saturday DTM race at the Lausitzring, beating brother Kelvin to pole by less than half a tenth.

The Rowe Racing driver lapped the German circuit in time of 01:30:537, which was enough to dethrone his brother, who drives for the Abt Sportsline squad.

Kelvin ended up just 0.027s slower to take second, with his team-mate Mike Rockenfeller completing the top three.

Rockenfeller looked to briefly have secured pole himself before the two Van der Linde brothers surpassed him.

The DTM returned to the site of its second pre-season test for round two of the 2021 season, although the track had one notable change: the first corner has been extended to feature the quicker oval section, which hasn’t been used previously.

T3 Motorsport’s Esteban Muth impressively took fourth, with Liam Lawson rounding out the top five for the Red Bull AF Corse team.

Arjun Maini led the session early on before taking sixth place for Team Getspeed, with Alex Albon seventh in his AlphaTauri-liveried Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo.

The top ten was rounded out by Timo Glock, Philip Ellis and Maxi Buhk, with Lucas Auer eleventh and Vincent Abril twelfth.

Daniel Juncadella and Marco Wittmann came home in thirteenth and fourteenth, with Maxi Götz and Nico Muller fifteenth and sixteenth respectively.

Sophia Floersch took seventeenth in her Team Abt Sportsline Audi, ahead of the second T3 Motorsport Lamborghini of Esmee Hawkey, while Dev Gore rounded off the grid.
