Alfa Romeo’s 2021 Formula 1 car, the C41, has been unveiled during an event at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, Poland on Monday.

It is the third 2021-spec car to be unveiled following on from McLaren’s MCL35M and AlphaTauri’s AT02.

The car will be run for the first time on Friday during a filming day at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The Sauber-run team, which will continue to run under the Alfa Romeo brand for 2021, has finished eighth in the Constructors’ Championship across the last three seasons.

However, its points return of eight was its lowest since the 2017 campaign as it finished significantly adrift of seventh-placed AlphaTauri, often battling Haas and Williams towards the rear of the pack.

“The launch of a new car is always an emotional moment, the culmination of months of effort from everyone back at the factory and the start of a new adventure,” said Alfa Romeo Team Principal Frederic Vasseur.

“I think the philosophy upon which the team is based remains the same – we have to do a better job tomorrow than we are doing today. We finished last season in P8, so we have to target a better result in 2021.

“To do so, we have to keep improving in each department, trackside and back at HQ. Every team on the grid has very high expectations right now: all the teams expect to do a good job in the winter and to be in a good position for the first race, but soon it will be the time for everyone to show their cards.”

Alfa Romeo has retained Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi as its driver line-up for a third successive season.

Raikkonen returned to the team in 2019, having spent his rookie season at Sauber in 2001, and is now Formula 1’s most experienced driver, with 332 entries.

Ferrari-linked Giovinazzi has started all of his 40 grands prix with the Switzerland-based team.

Robert Kubica, affiliated with Alfa Romeo’s title partner PKN Orlen, has stayed on as test and reserve driver.
