Nicolas Lapierre and Matthieu Vaxiviere will race for Alpine Matmut Elf in the top class of the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship.

The two French drivers will join the previously confirmed Andre Negrao aboard the #36 Alpine A480-Gibson, a grandfathered ex-Rebellion LMP1 car.

Lapierre is one of the most experienced French endurance racers currently active. He has 13 Le Mans start to his name, previously racing for overall victory with both Peugeot and Toyota.

Between 2015 and 2019, Lapierre embarked on a four-year LMP2 undefeated streak at Le Mans winning, interrupted only by a DNF with Toyota in 2017. In that time, he took three class wins with Alpine in 2016, 2018 and 2019. Two of those most recent wins came alongside Negrao.

In 2020, he raced with Cool Racing in the WEC, but the Swiss squad will not return to the series for 2021.

Vaxiviere, meanwhile, will take part of his third full season in the WEC, graduating to the top class after two seasons of LMP2 competition with TDS Racing. In 2020, he joined Panis Racing in the European Le Mans Series, a deal that saw him score a podium at Le Mans.

He has previously also raced for Wayne Taylor Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

With the announcement, Alpine becomes the second team after Toyota to announce its full-season line-up. Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has already confirmed Gustavo Menezes and Ryan Briscoe as its first two drivers and is expected to reveal the remainder of its driver crew later this week.
