Romain Grosjean returned to the Formula 1 paddock in Bahrain, four days after the high-speed accident at the venue that left him with burns.

Grosjean speared into the Armco barriers on the opening lap and his car split in two and burst into flames.

He was able to extricate himself from the burning wreckage after almost half a minute and was immediately tended to by Formula 1’s medical crew.

Grosjean spent three nights in hospital with minor burns to his hands before being released on Wednesday.

He will not participate in this weekend’s Sakhir Grand Prix, also held at the Bahrain International Circuit, and reserve Pietro Fittipaldi will take his seat.

Grosjean has already outlined a desire to return in Abu Dhabi, for what is set to be his last event with Haas and in Formula 1, but was present in the paddock on Thursday.

Grosjean, sporting bandages to his hands and a protective ankle/foot boot, met with members of his Haas crew, including race engineer Dominic Haines.

He also met with Dr. Ian Roberts, Medical Car Driver Alan van der Merwe and firefighters Joby Mathew and Thaer Ali Taher, who all played a role in the rescue situation, and thanked marshals for their invaluable role in motorsport.

A heart-warming moment ❤️
