The Haas Formula 1 team has provided an update on the condition of Romain Grosjean, stating the treatment he is reciving for the burns on the back of his hands is “going well”.

Grosjean was involved in a heavy crash on the opening lap of Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix, with his car splitting in half as it pierced the Armco barrier and bursting into flames.

The Frenchman extracted himself from the wreckage and was swiftly escorted to hospital, where it was confirmed he had suffered no fractures. However, it was determined that he should remain in the hospital overnight.

He will stay in the facility for at least another night, but it is anticipated that he will be discharged on Tuesday, December 1st.

“Haas F1 Team driver Romain Grosjean is continuing his convalescence at the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) hospital having remained there overnight following Sunday’s incident at the Bahrain Grand Prix,” read the statement.

“Treatment on the burns Grosjean sustained on the back of both his hands is going well.

“Grosjean was visited by Guenther Steiner, team principal of Haas F1 Team, on Monday and it is anticipated he will be discharged from the care of the hospital on Tuesday 1st December.”

It is not yet know if Grosjean will drive this weekend around Bahrain’s outer layout, which is the penultimate round of the 2020 season.

Haas currently has Pietro Fittipaldi and Louis Deletraz listed as its reserve drivers, who both hold Super Licences that are required to race in F1.
