The FIA has confirmed that just a single DRS zone will be in use for this weekend’s Formula 1 Portuguese Grand Prix.

Formula 1 is returning to the country after a 24-year absence and is doing so at the Algarve-based Portimao circuit, which has never hosted a world championship round.

The 4.653km 15-turn circuit will have a sole DRS zone along the main straight.

The detection point will be 65 metres after the long-radius Turn 14 hairpin and the activation point will be 125 metres after the high-speed Galp curve that leads drivers onto the pit straight.

As usual drivers will have free use of DRS in the permitted zone during practice and qualifying but must be within one second of a rival for it to be activated in race trim.

On-track action in Portugal will begin on Friday morning.
