Formula 2 has officially confirmed the 11 teams that will compete in the championship over the next three-year cycle, including Lando Norris’ new team.
The long-awaited announcement came in the lead-up to Formula 1’s Mexico City Grand Prix, marking an early win for reigning world Champion Norris.
Of the 11 confirmed teams, 10 will continue into the next cycle. But the biggest change comes through Norris’ brand-new feeder-series team.
The Italian team LN4 Fusion will join the grid for its inaugural season in 2027.
Ultimately, this leaves the series to bid farewell to AIX Racing at the end of the 2026 season.
This marks a significant step for LN4 Fusion, which McLaren driver Lando Norris founded just months ago. Norris aims to help junior drivers achieve their dreams of reaching F1, giving them the crucial backing needed to progress up the feeder series ladder.
Despite changes to the grid, F2 will retain the same number of drivers. Each of the 11 teams will field two drivers, maintaining the championship’s 22-car grid.
When reflecting on the changes, F2 CEO Bruno Michel explained his decisions for the coming years.
“We received strong interest from teams around the world for this new three-year cycle,” Michel explained.
“Underlining the strength and appeal of our Championship. We have retained ten of our current teams, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to providing the best possible environment for young drivers to prepare for Formula 1.”
Additionally, Michel welcomed the new team, expalinaing that with Norris’ backing it will set the scene for an interesting championship.
“I am also pleased to welcome LN4 Fusion to the grid. They will bring considerable expertise, and I am confident they will make a valuable contribution to the Championship.”
