Beneath the blinding Singapore floodlights, Max Verstappen delivered a masterclass in precision, mastering a rapidly degrading circuit to snatch pole position while Q1 chaos claimed victims further back.
Saturday at the Singapore GP so far
Max Verstappen headed into Qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix on the back of a dramatic Sprint victory, overcoming chaotic wet-to-dry conditions and a late technical scare to secure the top spot earlier in the day.
Verstappen inherited the lead after Russell spun out, and managed a late turbo issue to hold off a charging Lewis Hamilton, while Charles Leclerc claimed the final podium spot after McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided on the final lap.
With the track drying and tension running high following an incident-packed afternoon, here is how Qualifying unfolded under the lights in Marina Bay.
Q1
Q1 got underway under the lights in Singapore as drivers queued at the pit-lane exit.
Early drama unfolded quickly when Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll locked up into runoff areas, bringing out brief yellow flags.
Isack Hadjar’s nightmare session began shortly after. He ran off track at Turn 8, briefly stopped with a shut-off engine, and limped back to the pits.
Lewis Hamilton set the early pace for Ferrari before Max Verstappen edged ahead on used softs. Hadjar rejoined the circuit, but a gearbox failure struck immediately, forcing him to crawl back to the garage and climb out of the car without setting a lap.
Lando Norris briefly jumped to the top, but Hamilton answered back to reclaim P1 by nearly a tenth. Antonelli lost his fastest lap to track limits, but his secondary effort kept him safely in P9.
A flurry of late improvements drastically reshuffled the order as the clock hit zero. Pierre Gasly and Arvid Lindblad vaulted into the top 10, dropping Alex Albon into the elimination zone. Nico Hulkenberg surged to P5, while Ocon only managed P15.
Fernando Alonso improved on his final attempt, but only reached P17 to join a shock set of Q1 eliminations. Sergio Perez finished a dismal P20, joining Hadjar [P22], Bottas [P21], Stroll [P19], and Albon [P18] on the sidelines.

Q2
The second session of qualifying saw George Russell leading Kimi Antonelli out of the pit lane, while Carlos Sainz initially opted to stay in the garage.
Antonelli set the early benchmark with a 1:32.165, beating Russell by over a tenth.
Lewis Hamilton then shattered his teammate’s effort, surging to the top by nearly four tenths of a second.
Gabriel Bortoleto slid wide off the racing line and fought his Audi onto the marbles, keeping his car out of the barriers but leaving him down in P16 without a strong lap.
With four minutes remaining, Hamilton maintained his lead ahead of Lando Norris and Antonelli, while Oscar Piastri brushed the wall on his way to P7.
Max Verstappen then bolted on fresh soft tyres, firing in rapid sectors to jump into P2, just one tenth off Hamilton’s pace.
The final frantic runs saw late drama across the field. Franco Colapinto clipped the wall hard on his flying lap and remained stranded in P16.
Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad both locked in top-10 slots, while Pierre Gasly squeezed through on the bubble.
Ollie Bearman and Nico Hulkenberg both missed out on late improvements. Hulkenberg ended Q2 in 11th, leading Bearman [12th], Esteban Ocon [13th], Sainz [14th], Bortoleto [15th], and Colapinto [16th] out of qualifying.

Q3
Q3 got underway with George Russell leading Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen out of the pit lane on fresh soft tyres, while Lewis Hamilton and Pierre Gasly waited in the garage.
Initial flying laps saw instant drama when both Mercedes drivers aborted their opening efforts.
Verstappen capitalised immediately, firing in a benchmark 1m 31.373s to take provisional pole.
When the rest of the field completed their first runs, Hamilton slotted into P2, ahead of Antonelli, Charles Leclerc, and the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Liam Lawson led the midfield runners ahead of Gasly and Arvid Lindblad.
Mercedes triggered the final runs early, opting for double warm-up laps to bring their soft tyres into the ideal working window.
Norris led the rest of the pack out for their final attempts, with Verstappen trailing at the rear.
As the clock ticked down, track conditions degraded and lap times plateaued.
Hamilton lost a tenth and a half to a mid-lap snap, staying second before Leclerc snatched P2 away from him. Antonelli aborted his final lap, while Verstappen failed to improve on his own time.
Verstappen’s opening benchmark proved unbeatable, securing him pole position by 0.054s over Leclerc.
Hamilton qualified third alongside Antonelli, with Norris, Russell, Piastri, Gasly, Lawson, and Lindblad rounding out the top 10.
