McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have shared their ‘unbothered’ thoughts following a last-lap collision in the Formula 1 Singapore Sprint Race.
On the final lap of the first Sprint Race in Singapore, Norris and Piastri made contact heading into Turn 5. Norris went down the inside of Piastri, who didn’t see him, ultimately spinning the pair around.
This desperate last-lap lunge saw a drop to eighth for Norris. Meanwhile, Piastri was forced to retire just corners short of the chequered flag.
Despite the evident frustrations from the McLaren pit wall, the drivers remained calm in their reactions following the incident. Regining World Champion Norris offered some contrition to the team after the race.
“I apologise to them [the team] that one of the cars is out.”
But when asked to give his opinion on the incident between himself and Piastri, the Briton remained diploamtic.
“I’d rather just go back and review.”
Meanwhile, his team-mate followed in a similar path. The Australian, who was frustrated last year when Norris made early race contact with him, claimed he was ‘unbothered’ by the incident itself. Keeping his focus on qualifying later today.
“I’ve not seen it properly, I mean, from where I sit, it’s for 4th and 5th for a Sprint race, so I’m not that bothered,” Piastri told Sky Sports after the race.
“It’s just a lot of work now for the team to get both cars fixed. It’s a shame for the team.”
McLaren’s pit wall, however, did not share the same level of head. Andrea Stella and Zak Brown reportedly stormed back into the team’s hospitality, furious with the move, blunting McLaren’s bid for third in the Constructors’ Championship.
