Ferrari has issued a social media apology following a Social Media ‘hijacking’ by its drivers ahead of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
The Scuderia released an ‘unofficial’ apology after Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton took control of the official social channels throughout media day. The pair unleashed chaos, uploading several reels and photos primarily to Instagram. They also changed the iconic Ferrari logo to a selfie of the dynamic duo and interacted with F1 fans through multiple Instagram Lives.
With Leclerc taking the opportunity to self-promote his own social media channels.
The social media frenzy lasted several hours, reaching Motorsport fans across the world. Leaving many in disbelief of the content they were seeing.
However, all good things must come to an end. Several hours after the ‘takeover’ began, the team released a playful statement ending their driver’s fun.
“Scuderia Ferrari HP confirms that, over the past two hours, two individuals within the organisation gained unauthorised control of our social media channels,” Ferrari wrote on social media.
“During this period, a series of highly questionable editorial decisions were made. Including changes to our profile picture and the publication of content that did not undergo our standard approval procedures.
“We can confirm that the two suspects have been identified and the situation has now been contained. Full control of our accounts has been restored.
“We thank our fans for their understanding during this unprecedented incident.”
From social media admins to race car drivers. Hamilton and Leclerc’s focus now shifts to the crucial race weekend at hand. Finishing second and fourth respectively in the sole practice session of the weekend, the pair will be aiming to secure a solid points haul for the team.
