FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has praised the newly released 2027 Formula 1 calendar, highlighting the expansion of sprint races as a testament to the sport’s continued growth.

The 2027 calendar was released Wednesday morning, featuring a return to Portimao and Istanbul Park, two circuits used in previous years, and the surprise, radical inclusion of a sprint race in Monaco.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali credited the need for intensity as the rationale behind the radical calendar, while acknowledging the work done by the FIA to help realise the vison.

Ben Sulayem has joined Domenicali in praising the calendar, highlighting his belief that the sport is continuing to grow and enjoy mass global appeal.

“The 2027 FIA Formula 1 World Championship calendar is a strong reflection of the global appeal and continued  growth of our sport,” said Ben Sulayem.

“With twenty-four Grands Prix across five continents, the return of Portugal and Turkey, and the opportunity for an expanded Sprint programme, the calendar combines tradition, innovation, and fan engagement while maintaining the highest sporting standards.

Ben Sulayem took the opportunity to thank the promoters, believing that 2027 will be an “exceptional” year for the sport.

“I would like to thank Formula 1 Management, the promoters, the national sporting authorities, the FIA officials and volunteers and all our stakeholders for their collaboration and commitment.

“Together, we continue to strengthen the FIA Formula 1 World Championship and deliver an exceptional season for competitors and fans around the world.”

The FIA and F1 are in unison in praising the sport’s growth as the reason for the radical 2027 calendar. Questions over the decision to award a sprint race in Monaco are likely to increase, but many will welcome the return to Portugal and Turkey.
