Andrea Kimi Antonelli has given a philosophical perspective on using the “bad moments” in his debut season as lessons learned as he continues his Formula 1 World Championship push.
The Italian has enjoyed a stunning transformation from his debut campaign in 2025, to today, where he sits top of the Drivers’ standings, 59 points ahead of Mercedes teammate George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.
Antonelli has won half of the races run so far, utilising the Mercedes’ strong W17 package and adapating admirably to the sport’s complicated new V6 hybrid regulations.
It is a world away from this time last year, when Antonelli was receiving numerous barrages of criticism for a dip in form and a string of mistakes across the European leg of the season.
Many of those who were quick to judge the teenager’s performances may now be eating humble pie on the situation, but Antonelli, speaking to F1.com, is looking back at this time in order to look forwards.
“The job is not done yet, We’re only halfway through and there is still so much that needs to happen and so much to be achieved,” he acknowledged.
“Experience is playing a massive role. Of course, I still have a lot of experience to make, but I think last year, despite all the bad moments and the difficult periods, I think that was what I needed.
“Because that helped me to grow even more than what I anticipated. It made me stronger emotionally and mentally.”

Antonelli will need that emotional and mental strength next weekend at Monza, when, in front of his home crowd, will need to come through the field to continue his championship charge.
His necessity of a new engine change will mean a grid penalty will be taken, and Mercedes has opted for the ‘Temple of Speed’ to be the track on which to serve that.
