Red Bull has confirmed the appointment of a successor to Helmut Marko, beginning a fresh chapter for its junior programme.
The Milton Keynes-based squad has suffered the loss of several key personnel over the last couple of seasons, including the sensational axing of Team Principal Christian Horner last year.
Marko, who was said to have been at odds with Horner, also left the team at the conclusion of the season, confirming that he was entering into retirement after decades of heading the Red Bull Junior Programme.
Since then, much speculation has rumbled about exactly who would take on the unenviable task of replacing Marko, who helped produced a plethora of racing talents to Formula 1, including its two World Champions – Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
Over the weekend of the Belgian Grand Prix, rumours were rife that Gwen Lagrue, a Mercedes talent scout who was credited with helping unearth current F1 title leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli, had been poached as Marko’s successor.
And today, the appointment of Lagrue has been confirmed.

Lagrue signing ‘fundamental’ to future Red Bull success
Under Marko’s stewardship, the Red Bull Junior Programme became one of the slickest in F1 history, producing a myriad of talented stars, who have either graduated to F1 or succeeded in other forms of racing.
The team is currently in the midst of a difficult period, which has seen the RB22 underperform compared to its rivals’ cars as well as ongoing rumours that Verstappen may leave the team, amid rumoured talks with McLaren.
The signing of Lagrue heralds some much-needed welcome good news for the team, which Mekies believes is “fundamental” to the team succeeding in the future and producing a fresh wave of talent.
“Gwen is one of the very best talent developers in F1 and I know first-hand the expertise, leadership and passion he brings to developing young drivers,” he said.
